Running Effective Meetings

Welcome!

The aim of parliamentary procedure, and the role of a parliamentarian, is to promote order, fairness, clarity, and efficiency in the business of an assembly or organization. Based in Massachusetts, the George Demeter Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians offers educational opportunities in the study of parliamentary procedure.

Regardless of your level of familiarity with parliamentary procedure, we encourage you to check out the information and resources that we have compiled on this website, or better yet, to get in touch with us about joining the Unit.

"Where is no law, but everyman does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty."

– Henry M. Robert (Roberts Rules of Order - Later Editions)

"Without rules, there would be injustice and confusion. Hence, it is as necessary to follow the rules of parliamentary law as it is to follow the rules of a ball game or a card game."

– Dr. George Demeter
